read moreArkansas One Call recommends that whoever is doing the actual excavation should call in the locate requests. However, realizing that several utilities use sub-contractors and are calling in those locate requests for the sub-contractors, we have the following recommendation:
If the sub-contractor has been assigned, allow the sub-contractor to call in the locates, the sub-contractor knows when the work will actually take place.
This will alleviate unnecessary additional requests which are costly to all our members in terms of manpower.
If a utility has determined that they will call in all locate requests associated with the utility, the following should occur:
Arkansas One Call encourages all utilities to adopt locate call in procedures that facilitate communication out in the field and reduce unnecessary additional requests.
Please remember that a locate request must be renewed due to the following:
A sub-contractor will not be allowed to make additional requests locate request submitted by a utility if the remarks do not indicate that a sub-contractor will be used. The CSR will create a new locate request for that caller under his/her own caller record. The CSR will also create a new locate request for that caller under his/her own record if the locate request is no longer valid (see renewal requirements listed above).
